How to avoid being intimidated by the body positive movement

Okay so before I get any backlash for this post, please note that this is my OPINION and I DO NOT KNOW OR CLAIM TO KNOW everything about the movement, but just like many others who are also not as clued up, I'm sure many can relate to my current understanding of the movement.

2017-2018 was round about the first time that I became aware of the body positive movement, and because I have been struggling with being confident in my body and loving my body for a pretty long time I thought, oh well! I can relate to this!? right?

As I start supporting the cause and creating my very own body positive agenda for myself, controversies start to break out. First it was the outrage over an 'extremely' obese woman representing body positivity on some magazine cover, then it was throwing hate at a plus size model for working on her body in the gym and losing weight, and then there comes the "you can't be part of the movement if you're skinny and not black". I was just like uhm....now I am so confused.

The researcher in me decided to do some digging and by digging I mean googling. I didn't end up doing as much as I wanted to because almost every single video or article legit said something different. Sooo...the question is..where is this party actually happening and who the fuck is actually invited?

I quickly became intimidated and decided, y'know fuckit, the body positive movement (whatever it is and if it really actually exists, who tf knows) actually helped me become more body positive ( there's also a difference between body positivity and body confidence! DO NOT get this mixed up or you'll die!) and that's when I realised something!

Being body positive or any damn thing positive (be it life, money, or food positive) really REALLY actually and factually starts with YOU. Yes YOU!! okay yes the body positive movement is what sparked it in me to you know just look at myself and appreciate my body for all it's cool organs, it's ability to sweat when I need to cool down, it's ability to keep me from harm through my cool unpracticed reflexes and just all that jazz. I started appreciating everything that I am able to do with my body and I was like "oh yes body! you're great! and because you're so great I want you to stick around longer so let's go for a run or let's actually rest today it's been a hectic week, oh wait! you deserve that zinger wings!"

What I am trying to say is everything starts with that one moment when you decide what you want to do with yourself. When you decide what will make you happier, not some damn movement!

In 2019 the movement should be YOU.

Hope this makes sense to those feeling intimidated and left out.

keep sparkling,

Love,

MiriB

Really confused about whether or not I'm invited. What do you think? LOL
